FC Filey (FBGFC) Club Personnel
Filey Boys' Club was established in November 1996, as weekly indoor five a side football games for around twenty boys of mixed age.
These sessions proved popular and the numbers of boys increased within a short period of time. Jim Rush (a local footballer) and Peter Farnell the club founders, suggested forming a football club for boys in Filey and after an informal get together one evening, a committee was formed. The club didn't have any facilities, not even a pitch, so when Filey School were approached and they allowed the club to use the school field, the club became established.
Within two years of formation, the club boasted ten individual teams, two of which were girls teams. The current club name was adopted to reflect the intake of girls. The number of teams has varied over the past few seasons and the club presently has six squads.
In May 1999, the under twelve squad won the local minor league championship and were finalists in the cup, the club's first taste of success.
The club established a social aspect to it's activities to assist with fund raising and has hosted several successful tournaments, including the largest girls football tournament ever held in the Scarborough area.
The club also established monthly discos for the towns youngsters and has staged many club trips to venues including, Leeds United F.C. , Barnsley F.C. and Sheffield United F.C. Many of the club teams have entered tournaments around the north of England.
In the summer of 2002 the club applied for and was awarded the prestigious Football Association Charter Standard Club Award. The club presently enters junior teams into two local leagues. The Scarborough and District Minor League, and The East Yorkshire Junior Football League. The season 2008 to 2009 will see the club change it’s name to F.C. Filey and the club will be entering an adult team into the Scarborough Sunday League for the first time
The club continues to build on it's initial successes, as we initiated the formation of the FC Filey, who are actively pursuing the purchase and development of a new sports facility in Filey.
FC Filey, a wholly voluntary non profit making community organisation, devoted to the training, education and sport and leisure provision for the young people of Filey and the surrounding area. Board meetings take place at monthly intervals, usually on the first Thursday of each month.
